Apiezon Q Sealing Compound Q is a versatile, temporary vacuum sealing medium. It is a soft, putty like substance which is easily molded by hand at ambient temperatures, yet firm enough to remain in position and is readily removed when no longer required.

If a vacuum system develops a leak it is not always possible, or economically viable, to close down that system to undertake repairs. Apiezon Q Sealing Compound Q offers an effective, temporary vacuum seal until such a time as permanent repairs become more convenient. In this way Apiezon Sealing Compound Q may reduce equipment down times and ensure important deadlines are met in production situations.

Apiezon Sealing Compound Q is easily molded by hand at ambient temperatures, yet firm enough to remain in position. When kneading or rolling Compound Q, care should be taken to ensure that hands and surfaces are clean in order to preserve the low vapor pressure characteristics of the product. It has a vapor pressure of approximately 9 x 10-5 Torr at 20 degrees Celsius ensuring efficacious use where the vacuum requirement is not too low. With a softening point of 45 degrees Celsius, Compound Q should be used where the site of application remains between -10 and 30 degrees Celsius.

Apiezon® Q is a versatile sealing compound with putty-like properties, and it serves a variety of purposes throughout several industries. It has two unique properties, at room temperature it holds firm to remain stationary in position, yet is a soft material so it can be molded by hand. Apiezon® Q creates an effective, temporary vacuum seal if a leak persists in a vacuum system, thus reducing equipment down time. Apiezon® Q can be used as a sealant around edges of flat, unground joints to blank off parts of an apparatus, or sealing glass cylinders to metal plates to produce a vacuum seal. When kneading or rolling Apiezon® Q sealing compound by hand, it is important to ensure cleanliness of product to preserve the vapor pressure characteristics.

Removal
Apiezon® Q sealing compound will adhere to a wide array of surfaces including: glass, metal, plastic, and several more. With these strong adhesion properties, Apiezon® Q sealing compound is still easily removed by peeling away from the site of application. If traces of product are left, they can be removed with wash of any hydrocarbon solvent or with use of a vapor degreasing bath.

The sealing compound softens between 40–50°C (104–122°F). Maximum temperature for use is 30°C (86°F). Vapor pressure is 1×10-4 Torr at 20°C (68°F).

Constructs temporary vacuum enclosures (such as sealing glass cylinders to metal plates). Used for vacuum work where low vapor pressures are not required. Readily molded. Easily applied and removed.
